Toyota Corolla Cross Nasu Edition Makes Headlines in Japan

The Toyota Corolla Cross, one of Toyota’s most popular compact SUVs, is in the spotlight in Japan, thanks to the launch of the special 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition. The Nasu Edition concept debuted at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, presenting Toyota’s adventurous take on its urban-friendly SUV. Besides the concept, the Corolla Cross continues to capture attention with updates in its hybrid and petrol models launched in Japan.

What is the Corolla Cross Nasu Edition?

The 2026 Corolla Cross Nasu Edition is a rugged, adventure-inspired concept named after Mount Nasu, a famous scenic and hiking destination in Japan. This edition emphasizes versatility and outdoor capability beyond the traditional urban-focused design of the Corolla Cross. The vehicle features a lifted suspension, Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires, custom body kit, rock sliders, roof rack with cargo basket, and off-road lighting to boost its practicality for off-road adventures.

Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessories Development team designed the Nasu Edition with functionality and style in mind, adding unique details such as a purple wrap that changes colors under different lighting, which nods to the word “nasu,” meaning both “eggplant” and “to achieve” in Japanese. The interior has storage drawers in the cargo area, along with a refrigerator tray, making the SUV a perfect companion for extended outdoor trips.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the Nasu Edition retains the 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder hybrid engine paired with three electric motors, delivering a combined output of 196 horsepower. This powertrain balances performance with fuel efficiency, offering over 20 kilometers per liter of mileage, making it one of the most efficient hybrid SUVs in its class.

The hybrid system of the Corolla Cross allows it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 7.4 seconds, a significant improvement in driving dynamics over non-hybrid versions. It also features all-wheel drive with an E-Four electric 4WD system, enhancing traction and stability, especially on rough terrain.

Corolla Cross Updates in Japan

Alongside the Nasu Edition concept, Toyota has launched an updated Corolla Cross lineup in Japan, featuring new styling elements such as body-colored mesh grilles for hybrid variants, wider and more rugged front designs, and new wheel options including 18-inch alloys. The interior upgrades include an optional 10.5-inch center touchscreen and improved infotainment systems.

The Corolla Cross’s spacious cabin, high ground clearance of 8.1 inches, and class-leading fuel efficiency (up to 26.2 km/L) make it a versatile vehicle suitable for both city driving and outdoor adventures. Since its launch, the Corolla Cross has been a vital player in Toyota’s SUV portfolio, occupying a niche between the smaller C-HR and the larger RAV4.

Why is This Important for Toyota and Customers?

The Corolla Cross Nasu Edition highlights Toyota’s commitment to expanding the Corolla family beyond conventional limits by blending hybrid efficiency with off-road capability. While the Nasu Edition itself is a concept with no immediate plans for mass production, it allows existing Corolla Cross owners to customize their vehicles with Toyota’s official accessories and parts inspired by the Nasu’s rugged build.

For customers in Japan and globally, the Corolla Cross continues to represent a practical, efficient, and increasingly versatile SUV option that meets the demand for eco-friendly vehicles without compromising style or functionality.

With its eye-catching design, hybrid powertrain, and outdoor-ready features, the Toyota Corolla Cross Nasu Edition is a compelling showcase of Toyota’s innovative spirit and dedication to meeting evolving customer lifestyles. The blend of urban utility and adventure readiness makes it a standout in the competitive compact SUV segment.
